Discovering your own potential

We at Jass are always delighted when our employees progress in their careers. This is why we give them the support they need.

But sometimes we see potential in applicants we have not met before which could lead to a successful career. This was the case with a young man who had actually applied to join us as a warehouse logistics operative.

In the interview, it became apparent that the candidate had so much potential that a different career path seemed a better fit. When we conducted the in-house photoshoot and filming for the new website, we put him in front of the camera so he could tell his own story.

Would you prefer to read it for yourself? Here is the transcript:

“My name is Fabian Hirsch, I’m 21 years old and I’m doing a dual study course to become a paper technologist at Jass in Schwarza.

I originally applied to the company for the role of warehouse logistics operative. But after speaking to the human resources department and a few days of work experience here in the company, we then decided that the dual study course would be a more suitable option for me.

The dual study course lasts for a total of three years and is split into theoretical and practical phases. The practical phases take place at the company. The theoretical phases then take place at the Paper Centre in Gernsbach, in collaboration with DHBW Karlsruhe.

The dual study course is an excellent blend of theory and practice. In the theory, I learn lots of information about all kinds of things. Mathematics, chemistry, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and lots more. I am very heavily involved in the company’s projects here on site and also get to do some of my own.

What I particularly like about the course is that I get an insight into all areas. I also think it's great that I’m given lots of individual responsibility.

Another plus point is my colleagues. Older colleagues know a great deal about the company and can always help me with any questions I may have.

Once I complete my studies, I’ll be a paper technology engineer and will then mainly be involved in optimising the machine processes.”
