Jass paper mill in Fulda awarded grant for decarbonization program

The Jass paper mill at its Fulda site produces paper for corrugated cardboard packaging from recycled paper, making it an important part of the circular economy.

In addition to electricity, process heat (steam) is also required to manufacture corrugated base paper. Both are currently produced in a highly efficient gas and steam turbine power plant based on gas as an energy source, which emits corresponding amounts of CO2.

In order to be able to produce climate-neutral corrugated base paper at the Fulda site in the future, it will be necessary to largely redesign and rebuild the power plant park. This will require considerable investment in the energy supply.

“Above all, we expect the climate protection agreement to provide financial support for the considerable investments in the comprehensive conversion of our power plant park in favor of climate protection. This will enable us to offer our customers CO2-free packaging paper in the future,” explains Dr. Marietta Jass-Teichmann, managing partner.

Today, October 15, 2024, the Jass paper mill in Fulda was awarded the climate protection agreement by the BMWK in Berlin during a ceremony. This will enable Jass to make the production of corrugated base paper CO2-neutral in the future and become a pioneer in the industry in Germany.
