Jass Paper Mill, TWS, and TEAG Extend Their “Energy Partnership” in Schwarza

A new supply contract ensures the long-term energy and utilities supply for the Jass paper mill in Schwarza. Jass and TWS, a subsidiary of TEAG-Wärme, will thus continue to work together as partners to supply the paper mill—thereby helping to secure Jass’s future in Schwarza.

Schwarza. May 27, 2026. Following an intensive round of negotiations, the new supply contract between Papierfabrik Adolf Jass Schwarza GmbH and TWS Thüringer Energie Service GmbH was signed today in Schwarza / Rudolstadt. Since 2004, TWS—or its predecessor, EMS—has been the primary supplier of energy and various production media to the state-of-the-art Jass paper mill in Schwarza. The company produces corrugated base paper from recycled paper at its Schwarza site and is part of the paper recycling economy for sustainable packaging solutions.

TWS provides energy for the drying process and other production media for this purpose. The paper mill requires steam at various pressure levels between 4 and 8 bar, compressed air, feed water, firefighting water, and distilled water—TWS also generates electricity for Jass.

“The extension of the supply contract is also a clear confirmation of our successful collaboration with TEAG and TWS. A secure and reliable supply of energy and production media is of central importance to our company. We look forward to continuing this partnership together in the future,” said Dr. Marietta Jass-Teichmann, Managing Partner of the Jass Group.

“The new contract to supply the Jass paper mill provides TWS with planning certainty for the Schwarza power plant. We now know how we will further develop our power plant and water treatment facilities in the coming years and invest accordingly,” explained TWS Managing Director Rico Bolduan at the contract signing. In addition, the contract provides even more flexibility to better adapt energy needs to market and price developments, Bolduan continued.

TEAG Board Member Dr. Andreas Roß also sees significantly more development potential in the collaboration between Jass and the TEAG subsidiary TWS with the conclusion of the new contract: “We still see opportunities in terms of expanding the circular economy, for example in the use of waste heat from both the paper mill itself and external companies—such as the Thuringia Steelworks and TVS.”

With around 180 jobs, Papierfabrik Adolf Jass Schwarza GmbH is one of the most important industrial employers in the Rudolstadt-Schwarza region. In addition, there are a large number of so-called indirect jobs at service companies and suppliers; 45 employees also work at the TWS power plant in Schwarza.
